Spark Opera is a Northern Irish community opera company founded by Kate Guelke. Producing everything from pop-up opera and flashmobs to full-scale masses and operas, Spark Opera is committed to making opera for all.  We are passionate about opera as a total art form that has the power to move everyone.  We regularly premiere the work of Northern Irish composers and come together with local communities to create memorable performances of opera in Northern Ireland. 

 

Spark Opera has won awards (Arts and Business NI Finalist, National Lottery Awards Shortlist, Boston Contempo Director’s Choice Award, Student Entrepreneurs of the Year) and received critical acclaim (“world-class”, “remarkable”, “magnificent”, “Top 3 Classical Picks of the Year”).  Highlighted as a one to watch company by Fiona Maddocks in the Guardian, Spark Opera has also been praised by Master of the Queen’s Music Judith Weir as a company “Belfast is going to be proud of”.
